CP. AISHATU SPEAKS ON EXCLUSION OF VETERINARY INSTITUTIONS FROM THE INFECTIOUS DISEASE BILL PUBLIC HEARING

My dear colleagues, this is to inform you that the oversight in excluding Veterinary institutions, Agencies and Associations in the Public Hearing on the Infectious Disease Bill has been sorted out with the National Assembly.  It was a serious but unintentional oversight from the NASS.  The Council wish to thank the entire Veterinary Community for being proactive and highly sensitive to the progress of the profession and wish to assure you all of our commitment to move this great profession to the highest standard.  God bless you all. My Professional Colleagues, I feel very honoured, delighted and privileged to address you today as the President of our great Council on the occasion commemorating the “2020 World Veterinary Day” . The President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, CP Aishatu Abubakar Baju, today paid a courtesy call on the Honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Musa Bello,  in the company of the FCT Task Force on COVID – 19, to harmonize details of how the Veterinary Community, in this trying time, can help in the curtailment of the COVID–19 pandemic. The Veterinary Council drew the attention of the Honorable Minister to the Zoonotic potential of the COVID-19 virus as indicated by the recent diagnosis of some animal species (Tiger, dogs, cats) with the COVID-19 virus in some parts of the world as well as the recent outbreak of the virus among employees of major pork and meat industries in the United State of America. COVID - 19 LOCKDOWN ORDERS - TESTIMONIALS

You will recall that the President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, CP. THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID 19 - CP. AISHATU ABUBAKAR BAJU LEADS AN EFFORT TO ENLIST THE NATIONAL VETERINARY RESEARCH INSTITUTE VOM

The capacity for the COVID - 19 diagnosis at the National Veterinary Research Institute(NVRI), Vom, Plateau state is unparallel. Since 1924, NVRI, Vom has been in the forefront of controlling highly infectious diseases ranging from Rinderpest to the more recent, Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza H5N1 outbreak in 2006, which ravaged the poultry industry until it was successfully controlled.        The Laboratory's capacity for diagnosis and control of highly dangerous diseases like Avian influenza, Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Anthrax, Rabies, Monkeypox virus, Lassa fever virus e.t.c has been top notch and enhanced with a 220 square meter Bio-Safety Level - 3 facility (supported by the Canadian Government). With highly trained, proficient and experienced researchers, the institute is ready to be a part of the laboratory network for the diagnosis of COVID - 19. Dear Professional Colleagues, CURTAILMENT OF CORONA-VIRUS (COVID-19) PANDEMIC IN NIGERIA           Sequel to the measures put in place by the Federal and state Governments of Nigeria in an effort to contain this dreaded pandemic, I have adequately briefed and reiterated the significance of Veterinary and Para-Veterinary professionals as a critical component of Essential Service Providers in line with World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) protocol to the Police authorities.   This effort had convincingly made the Police hierarchy to expressly direct its Commands and Formations across the Federation to recognize the discharge of Veterinary and Para-Veterinary services across the country during the lock-down and restriction of movement policy.
