Veterinary Council of Nigeria Leads the Way in Digitization at the Pan-African Veterinary Statutory Body Exchange Meeting in Kenya

NAIROBI, KENYA - In a landmark gathering of veterinary leaders from across Africa, AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju, mni, President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), participated in the Veterinary Statutory Body Exchange Meeting held in Nairobi. The meeting, hosted by the Kenyan Veterinary Board, brought together representatives from the South African Veterinary Council, Uganda Veterinary Board, African Veterinary Technicians Association, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to discuss critical issues relating to veterinary para-professionals and continuous professional development.



Key Objectives of the Meeting:

The meeting focused on three core objectives:

  1. Sharing Best Practices: Participants engaged in robust discussions, sharing experiences and best practices on the registration and continuous professional development of veterinary para-professionals. This exchange of knowledge aimed to identify successful strategies and areas for improvement across the continent.

  2. Identifying Challenges and Opportunities: The meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to identify challenges and opportunities in enhancing the role and capabilities of veterinary para-professionals. Discussions centered on the evolving needs of the veterinary profession and how para-professionals can contribute more effectively to animal health and welfare.

  3. Fostering Collaboration: A key objective was to explore opportunities for future peer support and collaboration among veterinary statutory bodies. By working together, the aim is to address shared challenges and leverage collective expertise to strengthen veterinary services across Africa.


Nigeria's Leadership in Digitization:

A highlight of the meeting was the recognition of Nigeria's pioneering efforts in digitizing its veterinary registration and regulatory processes. The VCN's successful implementation of digital systems has streamlined operations, improved efficiency, and enhanced transparency. AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju expressed the VCN's willingness to share its expertise and support other councils in their digitization journeys.
