The Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), in a continuous effort to combat quackery and uphold standards in the animal health sector, has inducted 120 Veterinary Para-Professionals (VPPs). The induction ceremony took place on Tuesday, July 30th, at the Federal Polytechnic Mubi, where the VPPs graduated from the Department of Animal Health and Production Technology.
This induction signifies the VCN's commitment to strengthening the veterinary workforce and ensuring that only qualified individuals provide animal healthcare services. By registering and regulating VPPs, the council aims to maintain the integrity of the profession and safeguard animal welfare.
The event was graced by several distinguished personalities, including representatives from the Federal Polytechnic Mubi and the Ministry of Livestock and Aquaculture Development. The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Abdulrahman Aspita Ishiaka, was ably represented by the Deputy Rector Admin. The Emir of Mubi was also in attendance, further highlighting the significance of the occasion.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock and Aquaculture Development, Yola, was represented by the Chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Yola, Dr. A.P. Yesufu. The Deputy Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State also attended the ceremony.
During the induction, the VPPs were reminded of their crucial role in contributing to the development of the animal health sector. They were charged to abide by the ethical principles of the profession and work diligently to ensure food security, aligning with the agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This initiative by the VCN is a positive step towards curbing the prevalence of quackery in the veterinary field. By empowering qualified professionals and holding them to high standards, the council is actively working to protect animal health and promote sustainable livestock production in Nigeria.
