Building Bridges for Better Health: VCN and MDCN Foster Collaboration

Today, the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) leadership, led by the President, AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju, mni, undertook a courtesy visit to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). This visit was vital in establishing a closer working relationship between these two sister agencies.

The core purpose of this collaboration is to forge a powerful synergy for both agencies' collective good, ultimately benefiting Nigeria's health sector. This collaborative spirit is especially crucial in the face of shared challenges, where a united front proves far more effective.


One Health, One Goal

The discussions between the VCN President and Dr. Fatima Kyari, the MDCN Registrar, alongside Drs Abdu and Henry, both Deputy Registrars, centered on a critical concept: One Health. This overarching approach recognizes animal, human, and environmental health interconnectedness. By adopting and actively practicing this concept, the VCN and MDCN can achieve significantly better public health outcomes in Nigeria.

The conversation also highlighted the pressing need to address Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and combat the detrimental effects of quackery within the veterinary and medical fields. A strong emphasis was placed on developing robust advocacy and awareness campaigns to educate the public on these issues.

VCN at the Forefront of Innovation

The VCN President took this opportunity to share the Council's pioneering efforts in digitization. By embracing cutting-edge technology, the VCN has implemented a suite of innovative solutions, including a mobile app, ID cards, tamper-proof seals, and even geomapping of veterinary premises. These advancements contribute significantly to improved efficiency, transparency, and overall effectiveness within the veterinary sector.

This courtesy visit signifies a promising step towards a more collaborative future for the VCN and MDCN. By working together, we can leverage our combined expertise and resources to create a healthier and safer Nigeria for all.

    This is a step in the right direction and in the enlightenment campaign, the Nigeria government should be the first target because animal health is always a second thought to the government but must human health problems are rooted from animals.
