President of the Veterinary Council Joins Global Leaders in Paris for World Organisation for Animal Health Centennial Celebration


The President of the Veterinary Council, AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju, mni, joined world leaders and dignitaries this week in Paris, France, for the 100th-anniversary celebration of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

The prestigious event at the Maison de la Chimie marked a century of WOAH's dedication to safeguarding animal health and promoting global collaboration in veterinary medicine. The President, alongside representatives from 183 member countries, witnessed a historic gathering that acknowledged WOAH's crucial role in protecting animal welfare and ensuring the safety of the international animal trade.

"WOAH's legacy is one of remarkable progress," stated President Aishatu. "From its beginnings in combating rinderpest to its ongoing efforts against zoonotic diseases and antimicrobial resistance, the organization has demonstrably improved the lives of animals worldwide."

The President highlighted the importance of WOAH's focus on collaboration, praising the forum's emphasis on open dialogue and knowledge exchange. This focus on collective action, she believes, is essential for tackling the complex challenges facing animal health in the 21st century.

The week-long General Session will include celebratory events and critical discussions on the future of animal health. Delegates will explore strategies for ensuring sustainable animal production practices and address emerging threats like avian influenza.

The President expressed her optimism for WOAH's future, stating, "The Veterinary Council is proud to stand alongside WOAH in its endeavors. We look forward to continued collaboration in safeguarding animal health and promoting responsible veterinary practices for the benefit of all creatures."

Veterinary Councils of Nigeria and South Africa Collaborate for a Smoother Future

The Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) and the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) held an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024, led by VCN President, AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju, mni, Dr. Nandipha Ndudane, President, SAVC and SAVC Registrar/CEO Mr. Mongezi Menye.
