The capacity for the COVID - 19 diagnosis at the National Veterinary Research Institute(NVRI), Vom, Plateau state is unparallel. Since 1924, NVRI, Vom has been in the forefront of controlling highly infectious diseases ranging from Rinderpest to the more recent, Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza H5N1 outbreak in 2006, which ravaged the poultry industry until it was successfully controlled.        The Laboratory's capacity for diagnosis and control of highly dangerous diseases like Avian influenza, Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Anthrax, Rabies, Monkeypox virus, Lassa fever virus e.t.c has been top notch and enhanced with a 220 square meter Bio-Safety Level - 3 facility (supported by the Canadian Government). 1.  The Veterinary community in Nigeria has noted with concern the ravaging effects of COVID-19 globally and particularly in our country, Nigeria and wish to commend the efforts so far put in place by the Federal Government through the Presidential Task-Force on COVID-19 Pandemic, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and other relevant stake-holders.
